  • Is sugar used in your preserves?
Sugar is a natural preservative and is required to stop most microorganisms growing. Kampi Kitchen’s well tested recipes blend the right levels of sugar to preserve the fruit with a dash of fresh lemon juice to produce a vibrant, beautiful consistency.
  • How do you make your preserves?
We cook up fresh seasonal ingredients, sourced from local producers, in Jessica’s kitchen. Kampi Kitchen batches are small as everything is handmade and we want to maintain the abundance and robustness of our flavours, something that can be lost with larger batches.
  • How should I store my Kampi Kitchen preserves?
All Kampi Kitchen preserves can be kept in your cupboard whilst unopened but must be refrigerated once opened as our products don’t use artificial preservatives.
  • Can I order preserves directly from Kampi Kitchen?
We now have many stockists who would be delighted if you visited their shops to purchase Kampi Kitchen products. Unless you are a professional on-line supplier like Greenspoon, we find that glass jars and couriers do not make a good combination. We don’t want our customers to experience the disappointment of a broken jar. If you would like to become one of our stockists please do drop an email to kampikitchen@gmail.com
  • What is the shelf life of Kampi Kitchen range of preserves?
All have a guaranteed shelf life of 12 months, however once opened our jams, marmalades, chutneys and relishes should be kept in the refrigerator. Our pickles can be kept for a little longer. Our jars do have a date stamp to remind you 
  • What is the difference between a Jam and a Marmalade?
A very good question. Jam is made using the pulp and juices of a fruit whereas Marmalade is made from citrus fruit and uses the juice and the peel or rind which gives marmalade its chunky texture.
  • Are your jars recyclable?
Our glass jars are recyclable. If you are not able to reuse our jars at home then please do contact us via facebook to return them.
  • What is the difference between a Chutney, a Pickle and a Relish?
Another very good question. A Chutney is a thick, sticky mixture of fruit and vegetables, cooked with spices, sugar and vinegar: a Pickle is a jar of lightly cooked larger pieces of fruit and/or vegetables preserved in vinegar and spices and a Relish is a softer more chunky condiment with a slightly kali sauce.
  • Do any of your preserves contain alcohol?
No alcohol is used in Kampi Kitchen preserves.
  • I would like to stock Kampi Kitchen preserves in my shop/lodge/restaurant/cafe, do you offer a wholesale option?
Yes, Kampi Kitchen would love to increase our stockists and the number of establishments utilising our preserves throughout Kenya. Please email Jessica on kampikitchen@gmail.com to start a conversation.
  • Are your preserves gluten free?
All Kampi Kitchen products are gluten free.
  • Where are you based and can we come and visit Kampi Kitchen?
We are based just outside Nakuru in a village called Kampi Ya Moto. Sadly we do not have the capacity to host individual visits.
  • Are your preserves suitable for vegetarians and vegans?
