About Us
Kampi Kitchen’s recipes were handed down to Jessica from her mother-in-law who came to Kenya as a young girl in 1926. These recipes are still used today and have only been slightly modified to suit our locally sourced seasonal fruits and vegetables.
As Jessica was raising her family in Kitale she realised that not only were the recipes handed down but also a gift for making tasty preserves and condiments. Word soon spread about how delicious they were and so Jessica made batches of preserves, chutneys and pickles for local clubs, family and friends.
In 1996 the family moved to Kampi Ya Moto and Jessica was asked to supply a local garden shop outside Nakuru on the Nairobi Road and Kampi Kitchen was born. Kampi Kitchen’s range has certainly grown over the years, but all the ingredients are still received, prepared, chopped, sliced, diced, blanched, mixed and jarred in Jessica’s home kitchen. There is always a big open pot bubbling away at the heart of Kampi Kitchen cooking something delicious.
The Kampi Kitchen family consists of Salome, Esther, Susan and Helen with Jessica at the helm. They have worked with Jessica for many, many years and ensure a consistency of flavour and quality of product putting their passion and joy into every batch.
It's Fresh
Keeping ingredients locally sourced is one of Kampi Kitchen’s main aims as it ensures our preserves, pickles and chutneys are made with the freshest fruits and vegetables. It allows us to capture the taste of the season and seal it in a jar. This search has taken Jessica on many adventures over the years, discovering fruit and veg from local markets, roadside stalls and farms shops … even picking produce from her own and friends’ gardens.
It's Local
Jessica knows many of the producers of the ingredients personally now. She trusts their care, dedication and passion to supplying a genuinely quality product to Kampi Kitchen. We strongly believe in supporting our local suppliers. You can literally taste the authenticity in the small batch creations that are distributed to the Kampi Kitchen stockists.
It's Homemade
Kampi Kitchen’s delicious preserves, pickles and chutneys are created from family recipes that are over 50 years old. Based on the outskirts of Nakuru in the foothills of the southern end of the Rift Valley, Kampi Kitchen’s products are lovingly handmade by Jessica, Salome, Esther, Susan and Helen. At Kampi Kitchen we celebrate and respect our ingredients by not adding any preservatives or artificial flavourings.
